what are some advantages of synthetic slings?

Synthetic slings, such as those made from nylon or polyester, offer several advantages over traditional metal chain or wire rope slings. One advantage is their flexibility and ability to conform to the shape of the load, which can reduce the potential for damage to the load during lifting. They also have a higher resistance to abrasion and cuts, which can extend the lifespan of the sling. In addition, synthetic slings are typically lighter in weight than metal slings, making them easier to handle and maneuver.

Another advantage of synthetic slings is their ability to stretch under load, which can absorb some of the shock and reduce the risk of damage to the load or the sling itself. They also have a lower coefficient of friction, which can make them easier to use with smooth or polished surfaces. Synthetic slings also have a wider temperature range of use than metal slings, which makes them suitable for use in extreme temperatures.

Furthermore, synthetic slings are also more resistant to corrosion and rust which is beneficial in harsh environments or when the sling will be used in contact with chemicals. They also don’t conduct electricity which is useful in certain industrial applications.

In summary, synthetic slings offer a variety of advantages over traditional metal slings, including flexibility, durability, ease of use, and resistance to extreme temperatures and corrosive environments.

Nylon
Nylon is the most widely used general purpose synthetic web sling. Nylon is unaffected by grease and oil, and the material has excellent chemical resistance to aldehydes, ethers, and strong alkalies. However, nylon slings are not suitable for use with acids and bleaching agent or at temperatures in excess of 194 degrees F (90 degrees C). The stretch of a nylon sling at rated capacity is approximately 8-10%.

  • Monster Edge® - Monster Edge® nylon slings contain energy absorbing fibers that increase cut resistance and web protection. Monster Edge slings provide the increased abrasion resistance needed for many industrial applications. Monster Edge has proven its durability, and is considered the best product.  Click here to view our Monster Edge® Web Slings.

Polyester
Polyester web slings are used primarily in conditions where acid is present or a minimum stretch is desired. Polyester is unaffected by common acids and hot bleaching agents, but the material is unsuitable for use in conditions where concentrated sulfuric acid and alkaline is present. Polyester is also unsuitable in locations where temperatures exceed 194 degrees F (90 degrees C). Stretch of a polyester web sling at rated capacity is approximately 3%.
